Ingredients
  

For the Bars
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure Halal-certified.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk Use plant-based milk for vegan version.
  • 2 large eggs For vegan, use flax eggs.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk Adjust for desired consistency.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the eggs, milk, softened butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until combined, but take care not to over-mix—lumps are fine!
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Glazing
  1. While the bars are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Once the bars have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top. Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat in the microwave for a few seconds to enjoy the fresh-baked aroma.
