Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Measure flour accurately.
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional) Can substitute with white chocolate or chopped nuts.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until fully combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips gently with a spatula if using.
  6. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and centers look soft.
  2. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
