Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice them into ½-inch thick rings. Gently separate the rings and set them aside.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
Breading
- Take an onion ring and dip it into the flour mixture, ensuring it’s coated. Then dip it into the egg, letting any excess drip off. Finally, coat it with the breadcrumbs. For an extra cheesy flavor, sprinkle some cheese on top during the breading process.
- Continue this process with the remaining onion rings until they are all coated and ready to fry.
Cooking
- Heat oil over medium-high heat in a deep skillet or frying pan. Test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread in; it should sizzle and bubble.
- Carefully place a few onion rings in the hot oil (don’t overcrowd the pan) and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels.
Serving
- Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ranch, marinara, or spicy sriracha mayo.
Notes
Store leftover onion rings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in an oven at 375°F for about 10-15 minutes until crispy again.
