Method
Preparation
- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened (about 2-3 minutes).
- Toss in the ground beef while breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and taco seasoning.
Filling
- Once the beef is cooked through, stir in the refried beans and salsa. Ensure everything is well blended and heated through (another 2-3 minutes is usually sufficient).
Assembly
- Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture onto the center of the tortilla and sprinkle it with a handful of shredded cheese.
- Fold the sides inwards, then roll it up from the bottom to the top, creating a burrito shape.
Cooking
- In the same skillet (or a different one), place the burritos seam side down and grill them for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden and crispy.
Serving
- Remove from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve with your favorite toppings!
Notes
For perfect burritos, avoid overfilling, and try alternative fillings like chicken or turkey for variation.
