Ingredients

For the dumplings
  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work wonderfully)
  • 1 can (8 oz) crescent roll dough
For the sauce
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup butter, melted (unsalted for the best flavor)
  • 1 cup Sprite or lemon-lime soda

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash, peel, and core your apples. Slice them into thin wedges, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Open the crescent roll dough and separate it into individual triangles. Place a few apple slices at the wide end of each triangle.
  4. Roll the dough around the apple slices and seal the sides tightly.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Place the dumplings in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Stir until well blended, then pour over the dumplings.
  3. Pour the Sprite or lemon-lime soda over the dumplings.
  4. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Let the dumplings cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For different flavors, substitute pears for apples. Watch the dumplings closely to prevent burning. Ensure apple slices are thin for better cooking.
