  • 1 pound Fresh figs, preferably ripe Ensure the figs are ripe for the best flavor.
  • 1-2 tablespoons Sugar (optional) Adjust based on sweetness preference.
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice (optional) For a hint of tartness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Rinse your fresh figs under cool water to remove any dirt.
  2. Give them a gentle pat dry with a clean towel.
Trimming
  1. Remove the stems from the figs using a sharp knife.
Slicing
  1. Cut the figs in halves or quarters, depending on the size and your preference.
Coating
  1. If using sugar and lemon juice, mix them in a bowl.
  2. Add the fig pieces and gently coat them in the mixture.
Drying
  1. Using a dehydrator set to about 135°F (57°C) or an oven set to the lowest temperature (around 180°F/82°C), lay the figs out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Allow the figs to dry for about 6-8 hours in the dehydrator or 4-6 hours in the oven.
Cooling
  1. Once dried, turn off the dehydrator or oven and let the figs cool completely before storing.

Notes

Store your dried fresh figs in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. For longer storage, refrigerate for about a month or freeze for up to 6 months.
