Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until mostly smooth but still have some small chunks for texture.
- Add the melted butter to the mashed bananas. Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the banana mixture and stir until just combined. Gradually fold in the flour and cocoa powder until no streaks of dry ingredients remain.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pan and smooth out the top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with only a few crumbs attached.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
This delicious bread is best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored for up to 4 days in an airtight container. It also freezes well for 2-3 months. Warm slices in the microwave for a few seconds to reheat.
