Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 medium orange, zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and fresh orange juice until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are just set.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Serve warm or store in an airtight container.

Notes

Substitutions: You can substitute half of the flour with almond flour for a nuttier flavor. Ensure butter is softened, not melted, to prevent spreading. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature or warm in the oven before serving.
