Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash the apples and cut them into quarters. Remove the cores and slice them thinly to create delicate apple slices.
- In a bowl, combine the lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar. Add the apple slices to this mixture and toss them gently to coat. Let them sit for about 10 minutes.
- Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet, and cut it into strips approximately 2 inches wide and 12 inches long.
Assembly
- Take a strip of puff pastry and lay a few apple slices along the edge, overlapping them slightly, with the curve of the apple facing outward.
- Fold the bottom half of the pastry strip over the apples to create a pocket.
- Starting from one end, roll the pastry towards the other end to create the shape of a rose. Place each rose in a muffin tin.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
If you’re looking for a Halal-friendly option, feel free to swap out the apples for pears or other soft fruits. Ensure your puff pastry is thawed completely before rolling it out to avoid tearing. If you find leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
