Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds fresh figs Ripe and unblemished
  • 1 splash lemon juice Optional, to preserve color (ensure it’s Halal compliant)

Method

Preparation
  1. Carefully rinse your fresh figs under cool water to remove any dirt and pat them dry.
  2. Inspect each fig, discarding any that show signs of spoilage.
  3. Slice each fig in half lengthwise to expose more surface area for drying.
Dehydration
  1. Using a dehydrator, place the fig halves flat side up on the dehydrator trays, ensuring space between each fig for airflow.
  2. If using an oven, preheat to its lowest setting (around 140°F or 60°C), line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and arrange figs cut side up.
  3. In the dehydrator, set to 135°F (57°C) and dry for 6–12 hours, checking periodically for desired dryness.
  4. In the oven, dry the figs for 6–10 hours, checking each hour to avoid over-drying.
Cooling and Storing
  1. Once dried to perfection, remove figs from the dehydrator or oven and let them cool completely.
  2. Store in an airtight container or zip-top bags, in a cool, dark place.

Notes

For the best flavor, choose plump and ripe figs. Dehydration times may vary based on moisture content.
