Method
Prepare the Filling
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Add the diced strawberries into the mixture and fold gently until well combined.
Assemble the Wonton Bites
- Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface, placing about a tablespoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.
- Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it over to create a triangle, and press to seal securely.
- Optionally, fold the corners into the center for a different shape.
Heat the Oil
- In a deep skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Make sure it is at least 2 inches deep.
- To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of wonton skin in; if it sizzles, it's ready!
Fry the Wonton Bites
- Working in batches, carefully place the wonton bites in the hot oil.
- Fry until they are golden brown—about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Dust and Serve
- Once they are cooled slightly, dust the bites with additional powdered sugar.
- Serve warm and watch them disappear!
Notes
For substitutions, try using flavored cream cheese or alternative sweeteners. Fry in small batches to avoid sogginess. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven to restore crispy texture.
