Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs Should be at room temperature for optimal mixing.
  • 1 cup whole milk Can substitute with almond milk for a Halal option.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Can substitute with canola oil.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water This keeps the cake moist.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  4. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. Once cooled, add your favorite frosting or toppings.

Notes

Keep an eye on the cake during the last 5 minutes of baking to prevent overcooking. Don’t skip greasing the pans; it’s crucial for easy removal.
