Dad's Creamy & Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 4 medium medium-sized potatoes, thinly sliced Starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds are preferred.
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese Feel free to mix with other cheese varieties.
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups heavy cream Make sure it is well-seasoned.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcbs Optional, for a crunchy topping.
  • Fresh parsley for garnish Optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly across the bottom of the dish, slightly overlapping them.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Repeat this process with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese and Parmesan on top. Optionally add breadcbs.
Baking
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbling.
  2. Allow the dish to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For best results, allow the dish to rest before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
