Preparation
- In a bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Gradually add the water while stirring until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- While the dough is resting, mix the finely chopped vegetables and minced meat (if using) in a separate bowl. Add the soy sauce and sesame oil, and mix well.
- Divide the rested dough into small pieces, roughly the size of a golf ball. Roll them into thin circles, about 3 inches in diameter.
- Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling, sealing the edges tightly by pinching or crimping with a fork.
Cooking
- You can steam, boil, or pan-fry the dumplings. For boiling, cook for 5-7 minutes until they float. For pan-frying, heat some oil in a pan, add the dumplings, and let them cook until golden brown on one side. Add a splash of water and cover to steam for about 5 minutes.
Serving
- Once cooked, serve the dumplings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Store cooked dumplings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Steam or pan-fry from frozen when ready to eat.
