Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture
  • 1 pound ground beef Use Halal-friendly ground beef for compliance
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For Assembly
  • 4 pieces Cuban bread rolls
  • to taste French fries (for topping) Use crispy fries for best results.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix until everything is evenly incorporated.
  2. Split the beef mixture into four equal parts and form them into patties. Make sure they are slightly thinner than regular burger patties since they will shrink a bit while cooking.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet or grill over medium heat. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked to your desired doneness.
  2. While the patties are cooking, slice the Cuban bread rolls in half and lightly toast them in another pan until golden brown.
Assembly
  1. Place each patty on the bottom half of a toasted Cuban roll. Generously top with crispy French fries, and then place the top half of the bread to complete the burger.
  2. Serve your Cuban Frita Burgers while they are hot and enjoy the delightful combination of textures and flavors.

Notes

Substitutions: You can swap out half of the ground beef for ground chicken or turkey for a leaner option. Make sure to let your patties rest for a few minutes after cooking to seal in juices. Avoid overmixing the beef mixture to prevent tough burgers. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 2 months.
