Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef (or Halal-approved ground chicken or turkey)
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Toppings
  • shredded cheese
  • sour cream
  • diced avocado
  • chopped cilantro

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by prepping all your ingredients. Chop the onion and mince the garlic, making sure to have everything handy.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or your chosen alternative) until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  3. In the Crock Pot, combine the browned meat, kidney beans, black beans, crushed tomatoes, chopped onion, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Stir all the ingredients together until well combined. Cover the pot with the lid.
Cooking
  1. Set your Crock Pot on low heat and let it cook for 6-8 hours, or on high heat for 3-4 hours.
  2. About 30 minutes before it's finished, taste for seasoning. Adjust salt and spices according to your preference.
Serving
  1. Once done, scoop your chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

Notes

Feel free to swap out beans with your favorites or add corn for sweetness. For a vegan option, consider using lentils instead of meat. When reheating, add a splash of water or broth to regain its original texture.
