Pastry Ingredients
  • 1 package pie crusts or puff pastry Store-bought for convenience.
  • 1 egg beaten egg For egg wash.

Preparation
  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.
Cooking the Beef
  1. In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
Seasoning the Mix
  1. Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in the ground cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Mix well and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes.
Preparing the Pastry
  1. Roll out your pie crust or puff pastry on a floured surface.
  2. Cut out circles using a round cutter or a glass, about 4-5 inches in diameter.
Filling the Pies
  1. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture on one half of each dough circle.
  2. Fold the other half over and press the edges together to seal.
  3. Crimp the edges with a fork for a beautiful finish.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the hand pies on a baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg.
  3. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden and crispy.

Notes

You can freeze the hand pies for up to 3 months. To reheat, bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
