Method
Preparation
- Start by gathering all your ingredients. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.
Cooking the Beef
- In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
Seasoning the Mix
- Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the ground cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Mix well and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes.
Preparing the Pastry
- Roll out your pie crust or puff pastry on a floured surface.
- Cut out circles using a round cutter or a glass, about 4-5 inches in diameter.
Filling the Pies
- Place a spoonful of the beef mixture on one half of each dough circle.
- Fold the other half over and press the edges together to seal.
- Crimp the edges with a fork for a beautiful finish.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Place the hand pies on a baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden and crispy.
Serving
- Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
You can freeze the hand pies for up to 3 months. To reheat, bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
