  • 1 cup shredded gouda cheese The star ingredient that gives the dish its creamy texture.
  • ½ cup heavy cream Adds richness to the grits.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Enhances the flavor and creaminess.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season according to your preference.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water or chicken broth to a boil.
  2. Gradually whisk in the grits to prevent lumps.
Cooking
  1. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the grits, stirring often, until they have thickened (about 20-25 minutes).
  2. If it seems too thick, add a bit more water or broth as needed.
Finishing Touches
  1. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the butter, heavy cream, and shredded gouda cheese until everything is melted and combined.
  2. Taste and season the grits with salt and pepper to your preference.
Serving

Notes

For a vegetarian option, top with sautéed mushrooms and spinach. Avoid adding cold ingredients directly to hot grits to prevent lumping.
