Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. If necessary, crimp the edges for a decorative look.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until well combined.
- Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract to the egg mixture. Continue whisking until fully incorporated.
- Add the ground nutmeg and salt (if using) and give it a final stir.
- Carefully pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Baking
- Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes. The custard should be set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider topping your custard pie with nutmeg or whipped cream. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
