Ingredients

For the brownie base

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted) Melted for mixing.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder For rich chocolate flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional) For extra chocolatey flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the sugar, and blend until creamy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Beat until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually fold this mixture into the cream cheese blend until smooth.
  5. Lastly, pour in the melted butter and mix until everything is well incorporated. If you like extra chocolatey goodness, fold in the chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top. Bake for around 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the dish on a wire rack before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For dairy-free alternatives, coconut cream can be used instead of cream cheese. Keep an eye on brownies near the end of the baking time as ovens can vary. Overmixing can lead to tough brownies, so mix just until combined.
