Ingredients

For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ¾ cup whole milk
For the Crab Filling
  • 1 cup cooked crab meat (ensure no additives)
  • ¼ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon green onions, chopped (optional)
For the Lemon Butter
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Method

Preheat the Oven
  1. Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). A hot oven is key to getting those biscuits to rise beautifully!
Prepare the Biscuit Dough
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt. Using a pastry cutter, or your fingers, mix in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the cheddar cheese.
Add Milk
  1. Gradually add the milk to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing; some lumps are okay!
Make the Crab Filling
  1. In a separate bowl, combine the cooked crab meat, cream cheese, mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and green onions (if using). Blend them until evenly mixed.
Form the Biscuits
  1. On a floured surface, turn out the biscuit dough. Pat it into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Cut into squares or circles.
Stuff the Biscuits
  1. Take a piece of biscuit dough, place a spoonful of crab filling in the center, and fold it over to seal. Make sure the filling is well enclosed, then gently reshape it back into a round biscuit.
Bake
  1. Place the stuffed biscuits onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
Prepare the Lemon Butter
  1. While the biscuits are baking, mix together the melted butter, lemon juice, lemon zest, and garlic powder in a bowl.
Serve
  1. Once baked, drizzle the lemon butter over the warm biscuits, and get ready for a flavorful experience.

Notes

If you can’t find crab meat, you can use Halal alternatives like shrimp or fish for a similar flavor profile. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
