  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup beef broth (halal-approved) You can use homemade or store-bought
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For searing the steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs (thyme or rosemary) Either can be used based on preference
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (optional) For added color and nutrition

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced steak and cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent.
Layering
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, followed by the sautéed steak mixture.
  3. Sprinkle frozen mixed vegetables on top if using.
Mixing the Broth
  1. In a bowl, combine beef broth, salt, black pepper, paprika, and dried herbs.
  2. Stir well, then pour the mixture evenly over the casserole layers.
Topping and Baking
  1. Top the casserole with the grated cheddar cheese.
  2. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Serving
  1. Let the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving.
  2. Scoop out portions and enjoy!

Notes

For lighter options, replace steak with ground beef or diced chicken. Make sure to layer ingredients evenly to avoid uneven cooking. Check potatoes for tenderness before removing from the oven.
