Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Shape it into a loaf in the center of the dish.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meatloaf, spreading it evenly. If using store-bought mashed potatoes, you can use a piping bag to create decorative swirls.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top of the mashed potatoes.
Cooking
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F) and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired before slicing and serving.
Notes
This dish pairs well with a fresh garden salad, sautéed green beans, or buttered corn. For a sweeter side, consider glazed carrots. Enjoy with iced tea or lemonade.
