Ingredients

For the Chicken
  • 4 pieces chicken breasts Ensure chicken is fully thawed.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Consider marinating for extra tenderness.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying Enough to cover the bottom of the skillet, about 1/2 inch deep.

Method

Preparation
  1. Soak the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes or ideally overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a large skillet, pour vegetable oil to cover the bottom and heat over medium-high until shimmering.
Cooking
  1. Remove chicken from buttermilk, let excess drip off, and dredge in the flour mixture.
  2. Carefully place the breaded chicken in the hot oil. Fry for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  3. Once cooked, remove chicken from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite sides.

Notes

For lighter options, use skinless chicken breasts or almond flour for a gluten-free version. Ensure oil is hot enough before frying to prevent greasy chicken. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
