Method
Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of instant yeast. Mix these dry ingredients well.
- Gradually, add 1 1/2 cups of warm water and 1/4 cup of melted butter to the dry mixture. Stir until combined.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place your dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Shaping and Baking
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions (about 12-15 pieces). Roll each piece into a long breadstick shape (about 6-8 inches long).
- Place the breadsticks on a greased baking sheet, cover them lightly, and let them rise for another 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Once preheated, bake the breadsticks for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- While still warm, brush the breadsticks with melted butter, sprinkle with garlic salt, and finish with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Allow to cool slightly, and enjoy them warm as a delicious side to any meal.
Notes
Avoid overworking the dough after the first rise as it can lead to dense breadsticks. Consider using plant-based butter for halal-friendly options. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, warm in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
