  • 4 cups 1 small head of green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
Dressing
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk (or plant-based milk with lemon juice as a substitute) Halal-friendly option
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Shred the green cabbage and carrots into a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, mayonnaise, buttermilk (or substitute), apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Pour the dressing over the shredded cabbage and carrots. Gently toss until well coated.
  4. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
  5. Toss again before serving alongside your favorite dishes.

Notes

For a more flavorful slaw, make it a day ahead. Use fresh vegetables and avoid over-saturating cabbage with dressing until serving.
