  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature for easy mixing
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor enhancement
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt To enhance flavor
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Adds moisture
Topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Any nuts can be used

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with sour cream. Mix until just combined; don’t overmix.
  6. In another small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional chopped nuts for the topping.
Baking
  1. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets.
  2. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over each cookie before baking.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are set.
Cooling
  1. Allow the cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute with coconut oil or a dairy-free butter. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
