Ingredients

For the Pie Crust
  • 1 pre-made pie crust Store-bought or homemade
For the Custard Filling
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 large eggs At room temperature
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract recommended
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Optional, for thicker custard

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place your pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. You can crimp the edges for decoration or keep it simple. Blind bake the crust for about 10 minutes until slightly golden.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine whole milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt. If using cornstarch, mix it in to thicken the custard. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
  4. Once the crust is pre-baked, carefully pour the custard mixture into it.
Baking
  1. Place the pie back in the oven and bake for approximately 45–50 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  2. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Serving
  1. Slice up your Classic Vanilla Custard Pie and serve it chilled with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For a thicker custard, you can add an extra tablespoon of cornstarch. Consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or a teaspoon of almond extract for extra flavor. Make sure to whisk your eggs well to prevent curdling.
