Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place your pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. You can crimp the edges for decoration or keep it simple. Blind bake the crust for about 10 minutes until slightly golden.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine whole milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt. If using cornstarch, mix it in to thicken the custard. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
- Once the crust is pre-baked, carefully pour the custard mixture into it.
Baking
- Place the pie back in the oven and bake for approximately 45–50 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Serving
- Slice up your Classic Vanilla Custard Pie and serve it chilled with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For a thicker custard, you can add an extra tablespoon of cornstarch. Consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or a teaspoon of almond extract for extra flavor. Make sure to whisk your eggs well to prevent curdling.
