Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs Use room temperature eggs.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk Milk should be at room temperature.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch cake pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the eggs, one at a time, fully blending each egg before adding the next. Toss in the vanilla extract and blend until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan(s) and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature and do not overmix once flour is added. Store the cake wrapped tightly in plastic wrap at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
