Ingredients

Apple Filling
  • 6 to 8 cups peeled, sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Adds brightness to the filling.
Cobbler Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Optional Serving
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream Highly recommended for serving!

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to ensure even coating and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.
  4. Stir in the melted butter and milk to form a smooth batter. Don’t worry if it seems a bit lumpy; it will bake beautifully!
Layering
  1. Pour half of the batter into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  2. Layer the apple mixture over the batter, making sure to distribute it evenly.
  3. Top with the remaining batter, spooning it over the apples. It’s okay if some of the apples peek through!
Baking
  1. Bake for about 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  2. Allow it to cool slightly before serving warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving.
