Ingredients

For the Pie Filling
  • 6 cups sliced apples (peel if desired) Select firm varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour Sprinkle a little flour on the bottom of the crust to prevent sogginess.
For the Crust
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 2 tablespoons butter (cut into cubes) Adds richness to the filling.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Wash and slice the apples.
Mix the Filling
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
Prepare the Crust
  1. Roll out one of the refrigerated pie crusts into a 9-inch pie dish, covering the bottom and sides. Trim excess dough.
Fill with Apples
  1. Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared crust, distributing it evenly.
Top with Butter and Crust
  1. Dot the filling with butter cubes. Place the second pie crust over the filling, sealing the edges by crimping. Cut small slits in the top crust.
Bake the Pie
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Cover edges with foil if they brown too quickly.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the pie to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with toppings.

Notes

You can enhance your pie with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store leftover pie covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
