Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1.5 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup warm milk Temperature should be warm, not boiling.
  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar To activate yeast.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar For dough.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.33 cup unsalted butter Softened.
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
For the Topping
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar For topping.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and ½ teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, ½ cup sugar, vanilla extract, egg, softened butter, and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread softened butter on top, and sprinkle a generous layer of cinnamon sugar.
  2. Roll the dough tightly along the long edge. Cut it into 12 equal pieces and place each piece in a muffin tin.
  3. Cover the muffin tin with a cloth and allow the pieces to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Once baked, toss the warm cruffins in remaining cinnamon sugar for an irresistible finish.
Serving
  1. Allow to cool slightly before serving, and prepare for the deliciousness that awaits!

Notes

For best results, ensure your yeast is fresh and avoid skipping the kneading step to develop gluten.
