Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-Ins
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Ensure they are Halal-certified

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, soften the unsalted butter and mix it with the granulated sugar until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
Baking
  1. Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers look a bit soft.
  3. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For creamier cookies, consider substituting some granulated sugar with brown sugar. Keep an eye on the cookies while baking to prevent overbaking.
