Pastry and Filling
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed) Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed before use.
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened Alternatively, mascarpone can be used.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar For sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Adds chocolate flavor.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips For added chocolate texture.
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Enhances flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to achieve a golden-brown finish.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into squares (about 4x4 inches).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  4. Place a heaping tablespoon of the filling in the center of each pastry square. Fold corners over the filling to create a pocket and pinch to seal.
  5. Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg for a golden appearance.
Baking
  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the filled Danish on it.
  2. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Cool slightly on a wire rack. Optionally, sprinkle powdered sugar on top before serving.

Notes

Enjoy fresh, but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freeze before baking for longer storage. When reheating, bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes to retain crispiness.
