Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups hot water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter.
  7. Carefully pour the hot water over the entire baking dish. Do not stir!
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is set and a little bubbling.
Serving
  1. Let it cool slightly, then serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra decadence!

Notes

For best results, avoid overmixing the wet and dry ingredients and check for doneness a few minutes before the suggested baking time. You can serve it with vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream for added richness.
