Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In a separate bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter.
- Carefully pour the hot water over the entire baking dish. Do not stir!
Baking
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is set and a little bubbling.
Serving
- Let it cool slightly, then serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra decadence!
Notes
For best results, avoid overmixing the wet and dry ingredients and check for doneness a few minutes before the suggested baking time. You can serve it with vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream for added richness.
