Preparation
- In a small bowl, mix the warm milk and the active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Begin mixing the ingredients together using a wooden spoon or spatula until a sticky dough forms.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch the dough down and gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Place the balls of dough on a greased baking sheet, leaving space between each one for rising.
- Cover the shaped buns again and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown on top.
- Let the buns cool slightly on a wire rack before serving warm.
Notes
To keep them fresh, store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Freeze for up to three months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
