Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips make sure they are halal-friendly

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm milk and the active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Begin mixing the ingredients together using a wooden spoon or spatula until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Punch the dough down and gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed.
  7. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Place the balls of dough on a greased baking sheet, leaving space between each one for rising.
  8. Cover the shaped buns again and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
