Ingredients

Cookie Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Sugar for rolling sugar for rolling
  • 24 pieces chocolate kisses or any chocolate candy for topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and softened butter until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the large egg and the vanilla extract until combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and all-purpose flour. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Scoop out tablespoon-sized amounts of dough, roll them into balls, and roll them in sugar to coat.
  6. Arrange the dough balls on a lined baking tray, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie.
  9. Allow them to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To ensure the cookies turn out perfectly: consider using flavored butter or different chocolate candies for topping; keep a watch on baking time; if the dough is too sticky, refrigerate for 15 minutes before forming balls. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
