Ingredients
  

Potato Layers
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced Starchy potatoes like Russets work best.
Creamy Mixture
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Cheese Topping
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter For dotting on top before baking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline slicer for uniform thickness.
Making the Creamy Mixture
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
Layering
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  2. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, followed by a layer of cheddar cheese.
  3. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and top with the rest of the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses.
Baking
  1. Dot the top layer with butter and cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes.
  3. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Allow the dish to cool for a few minutes before serving to help the layers set.

Notes

Feel free to customize with toppings like fresh herbs or a dash of paprika. For cheese variations, consider Gruyère or mozzarella.
