Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice) Feel free to mix up cheese varieties for more complex flavors.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter Use unsalted butter for better control over seasoning.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour This will help thicken the sauce.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional) Add for extra flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until it’s completely liquefied.
  2. Add the flour to the melted butter, stirring constantly for about 1 minute until it forms a paste-like consistency.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens, which should take about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using), blending well.
  5. Gradually add the shredded cheese to the thickened mixture, stirring continuously until all the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Once the cheese sauce is delightful and creamy, it’s ready to be drizzled on your favorite dishes or stored for later use.

Notes

For leftovers, store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze in small portions for 2-3 months. Reheat on low heat or in the microwave, adding a splash of milk if it thickens too much.
