Ingredients

Cheese Ball Ingredients
  • 1 cup cheese (your choice; mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups oil for frying to ensure a deep fry

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by cutting your cheese into small cubes (about 1-inch).
  2. Set up your breading station: In one bowl, whisk the egg. In a second bowl, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. In a third bowl, prepare the bread crumbs.
  3. Take each cheese cube and roll it first in the flour mixture, then dip it into the egg, and finally coat it with bread crumbs.
Cooking
  1. In a deep pan, heat the oil over medium heat until a small piece of bread dropped in sizzles.
  2. Carefully place the coated cheese cubes into the hot oil (don’t overcrowd the pan). Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for an even cook.
  3. Once golden, use a slotted spoon to transfer the cheese balls to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Serving
  1. Serve while warm with your choice of toppings like marinara sauce or fresh herbs.

Notes

You can prepare the cheese balls ahead of time, freeze them, and fry them straight from the freezer—just add a minute or two to the frying time. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to a month.
