Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 3 quarters cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for mixing)
Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 quarter cup cold butter, cubed Cold for flaky texture.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional) For garnish.
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for brushing on top)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder until well blended.
  3. Add the cubed cold butter into the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse cbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dry mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the milk and melted butter together.
  6. Gradually pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; you want it to remain fluffy!
  7. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently and shape it into a loaf.
  8. Arrange the loaf in a greased baking dish.
  9. Pop your baking dish into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Once out of the oven, brush the top with melted butter. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.
  11. Let your loaf cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve warm!

Notes

Use cold butter for a flakier texture. You can experiment with different cheese types such as Gruyère or mozzarella.
