  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and lightly flour two round 9-inch cake pans.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  4. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture and buttermilk to the wet mixture, alternating, starting and ending with dry. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Evenly divide the batter between the prepared cake pans.
Cooking
  1. Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Once cooled, layer the cakes with your favorite frosting or whipped cream and fruits, if desired.
  2. Slice and serve to your guests!

Notes

Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for easier mixing. Avoid overmixing when combining wet and dry ingredients.
