Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of softened butter, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press half of the crust mixture into a greased tart pan to form the base.
- Distribute 2 cups of sliced apples evenly over the crust.
Making the Topping
- In another bowl, mix 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/2 cup of flour.
- Add melted butter to create a crumbly streusel. Sprinkle generously over the apples.
- Drizzle 1/2 cup of caramel sauce over the streusel.
Baking
- Bake in the oven for approximately 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the caramel is bubbly.
- Allow to cool before slicing. Serve warm with extra caramel or ice cream.
Notes
Use a combination of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor. Consider adding nutmeg or chopped nuts to the topping for a twist. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days or freeze for up to two months.
