Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan to prevent the cake from sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until well combined, about 2-3 minutes.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes in the pan.
Assembly
- Once slightly cooled, poke holes all over the cake using the handle of a wooden spoon or a skewer, about 1 inch apart.
- Pour the can of apple pie filling over the top of the cake, allowing it to seep into the poked holes.
- Drizzle caramel sauce generously over the apple filling.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
- When ready to serve, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, and optionally add chopped nuts.
Notes
For variations, try using a spice cake mix or vanilla cake mix. Invest in quality ingredients for the best flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to five days, or freeze for up to three months.
