Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a square baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Stir until well incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and the dry mixture until crumbly.
- Take about one cup of this mixture and set it aside. Press the remaining mixture firmly into the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
- Evenly spread the apple butter over the crust, then drizzle the caramel sauce generously on top.
- Sprinkle the reserved crust over the caramel and apple butter layer, adding any optional chopped nuts on top.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and the caramel is bubbly.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares.
Notes
For perfect bars, don't overbake and allow them to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before cutting.
