Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4-6 pieces Jalapeño peppers Fresh and firm for best texture.
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Vinegar (white or apple cider)
  • 1 cup Water
Optional Ingredients
  • 2 cloves Garlic For added flavor.
  • Spices (such as cumin or black peppercorns) For added depth.

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash the jalapeños under cold water. Slice off the tops and cut them into uniform rings, around 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Remove seeds if desired to reduce heat!
Making the Syrup
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, vinegar, and water. If using garlic or spices, add them in too.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
Cooking Jalapeños
  1. Reduce heat to medium-low and carefully add the jalapeño rings to the syrup.
  2. Let them simmer for about 15-20 minutes until tender and they change color.
Cooling and Storing
  1. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the jalapeños to cool in the syrup.
  2. Transfer them to a clean jar and pour the remaining syrup over the top. Seal the jar and refrigerate.
Serving
  1. Wait at least 24 hours before digging in to allow flavors to intensify.
