Method
Preparation
- Wash and slice your fruits into uniform pieces. If using cherries, pit them first.
Making the Sugar Syrup
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Cooking the Fruits
- Once the syrup is clear, add the prepared fruits to the saucepan. Allow them to simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes or until slightly softened.
Draining the Fruits
- Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the fruits from the syrup and place them on a wire rack or parchment paper to cool. Store the syrup for later use.
Coating
- After cooling for about 10 minutes, you can sprinkle additional sugar over the fruits for an extra sweet touch if desired.
Drying
- Let the candied fruits cool completely before placing them in an airtight container.
Notes
Keep candied fruits in a cool, dry place inside an airtight container, where they can last up to two weeks. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to a month. Reheat in the microwave for 5-10 seconds if needed.
