  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • a pinch salt
For frying and caramelizing
  • 6 slices thick bread (e.g., challah, brioche)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar For caramelizing
  • butter for frying

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well blended.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of butter and allow it to melt.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are thoroughly soaked but not overly saturated.
Cooking
  1. Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet, frying them for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and slightly crispy.
  2. Once the slices are cooked, sprinkle granulated sugar on top, allowing it to melt and caramelize.
Serving
  1. Plate your Burnt Cream French Toast and add any toppings of your choice, such as fresh fruits, chocolate, or a drizzle of syrup.

Notes

For best results, use brioche or challah bread. You can substitute dairy with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days.
