Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons butter Unsalted is preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 2 cups vegetable broth Use low-sodium for a healthier option.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Once the butter is melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour to form a roux. Continue whisking for about 2–3 minutes, until the mixture turns a light golden color.
  3. Gradually add the vegetable broth to the roux while continuing to whisk to prevent lumps from forming.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the mixture to cook for about 5 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  5. Once ready, pour your brown gravy over your chosen dish and relish the warm, savory flavors!

Notes

For a gluten-free option, replace all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months.
