Method

Preparation
  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves and slice the tomatoes.
Assembling
  1. Take your slices of bread and spread butter on one side of each slice. If using mayonnaise, spread it on each slice.
  2. On the non-buttered side of one slice, layer your ingredients starting with lettuce, followed by tomato slices, deli meat, and cheese.
  3. Place the other slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.
Cooking
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the skillet.
  2. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, flipping carefully until both sides are golden brown and cheese has melted.
Serving
  1. Remove from skillet, cut in half, and serve warm.

Notes

Substitute different cheeses or breads. Avoid overstuffing the sandwich. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in a skillet for best results.
